Acer Iconia W500 Tab WiFi-only UK Release Date and Price revealed

Acer UK has today announced the date for the release Iconia Tab A500. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 will be launched at the same time as its physically similar Windows version, the W500, on Friday 8th April 2011, PC Advisor was told today.

First seen at the big MWC event in Barcelona last month, the 3 devices particularly the W500 have lots to offer potential customers, and its this very device we wanted to give you further information on. What makes this tablet come netbook unique to the other 2 is the introduction of a keyboard dock. Once docked, the 10.1-inch, multi-touch touchscreen tablet becomes a netbook. In that sense, the W500 is a cousin to the Acer Iconia, a dual-screen tablet/laptop hybrid that has a touchscreen where its keyboard should be. It’s also very similar to the docking Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

The launch will be significant, as the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is Acer’s answer to the Apple iPad. In terms of features, the tablet will include a 10.1-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, with a fully sized keyboard, giving you the benefit of either having it with or without the dock. Also for your money, you will get a 1GHz AMD C-50 dual-core processor, ADM Radeon HD6250 GPU, 32GB SSD drive and 2GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB connections with battery life being in the region of between 4 and 6 hours.

The Iconia Tab A500 is 13.3mm thick and weighs 700g. Price will be £449, with an optional keyboard costing another £90. This Wi-Fi-only model will also be offered with an optional 3G modem, but that will not be available until May 2011. Price of the 3G version has not yet been revealed.
