Acer Iconia Tab A100 Release Date on April 20; Amazon UK pre-order starts for £300
Acer’s 7″ Iconia Tab A100 has shown up on Amazon’s UK site this week for pre-order and while it may not be the most impressively spec’d tablet its quiet appearance on the website has confirmed one special feature, its price. The tablet has been given a budget-minded tag of £300 for pre-order, with the device being released on April 20th according to the online retailer.
This equals the price of the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab from Amazon and means that when it is released in the US, where devices tend to be significantly cheaper than their US equivalent, it’s conceivable it could cost as little as $350. We’ve been hearing of the Iconia Tab A100 quite a bit as of late with its 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, 5 megapixel rear facing camera, 2 megapixel front facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and HDMI. The Iconia Tab A100 is also powered by the fan favorite Google’s Android Honeycomb.
At £300 you will get wi-fi only device, naturally, and the major downside is the small amount of storage on board, just 8GB. Still, it’s definitely good to see Android tablets becoming more competitive in the battle with Apple.
Sure, this is all great especially for those who think a 10-inch tablet just isn’t portable enough but when will we e seeing it hit store shelves.
It is not known when the Iconia Tab A100 will be available in the US, but its bigger brother, the 10″ Iconia Tab A501 is due to be released with AT&T in the Summer. Specs wise it will also feature an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and Android 3.0 but it will also come with 4G connectivity. Even though it has a larger display it is rumoured to cost $449, already cheaper than the direct conversion from the British price of the Iconia Tab A100.
