At a glance the new MacBook Pro remains the same as before Apple has been milking for years, the addition of faster processors, graphics and Intel’s brand new Thunderbolt interface all put more zip beneath the outstanding unibody design. Design and Features
This 17-inch MacBook Pro, offers similar specs to the high-end 15-inch model. But bigger screen (obviously), three USB ports instead of two and an ExpressCard/34 slot instead of an SDXC reader, but the two notebooks are otherwise identical.
When you look at the design of the device, it’s exactly the same as its previous version, Apple has stuck with what works and left the clean, unibody design of the MacBook Pro stand unmolested for 2011. The device has curved corner and the device weighs 6.6 pounds at 15.47 inches long.
When you look at the design of keyboard Apple has made it so narrow shortening important keys like delete and omitting a number pad, when there’s so much room. The track pad is designed with finger-friendly glass over much of the area below the keyboard. Traditionalists may have to take some time to adapt to Apple’s buttonless design, which allows the whole pad to click
Apple 2011 MacBook Pro powered with Intel’s new Sandy Bridge second generation 2.2GHz Core i7 Processor features AMD Radeon HD 6750 graphics with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, in addition to a 750GB, 5,400rpm SATA hard drive and a built-in seven-hour battery, providing most advance graphic experience, 17-inch LCD screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution, 4GB of 1,333MHz RAM, a 750GB, 5,400rpm SATA hard drive and a built-in seven-hour battery, that can’t be replaced by the user and of course Intel’s new Thunderbolt I/O Port that changes the way we transfer file through ordinary USB ports and that’s capable of data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps in both directions. Thunderbolt also offers native support for Mini DisplayPort and support by way of adapters for DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, and VGA displays. Thunderbolt is also compatible with FireWire and USB devices.
If you want further faster processor, you can increase it to a quad core 2.3GHz Core i7, and the RAM can be expanded up to 8GB, and the hard Drive can be replaced to 500GB with a faster 7200rpm model.
The new Sandy Bridge processors, built using Intel’s 32nm process, benefit from a redesigned micro-architecture where the processor, cache, memory controller and graphics engine are integrated on a single chip. This means data has less distance to travel.
When running graphically intensive applications, graphics processing automatically switches to the MacBook Pro’s powerful new AMD Radeon HD 6750M discrete GPU.
There is built in a 720p FaceTime HD webcam that provides a three times higher resolution than old iSight camera and better low-light performance.
For Ports, there are many other ports in addition to Thunderbolt that stands out as the most unique port on the MacBook Pro from back-to-front that includes Ethernet, FireWire 800, Thunderbolt, three USB ports, audio line in, headphones, ExpressPort 34 and Apple’s signature MagSafe power connector. On the right side of the device there is typical slot-loading DVD drive. Since the device doesn’t have a SD card slot you will have to fit a card reader if you wish that will cost about $30 online.
The 17 inch display with 1920 x 1200 LED-backlit LCD panel gives an exciting brightness inky blacks and eye-popping colors, Apple offers an anti-glare option, but you’ll lose the slick edge-to-edge glass bezel and it tacks $50 on to the purchase price. The display only leans 45 degrees from horizontal.
Since the device has been built with Intel’s Sandy Bridge Processor accompanied with AMD AMD’s potent new Radeon HD 6750 and 4GB of RAM, the device is capable of maintaining the multitasking ability whether you’re piling up dozens of tabs researching or dabbling in video editing.
The 17-inch MacBook’s AMD Radeon HD 6750M discrete graphics processor comes into play automatically when running graphics-intensive applications such as games. Since titles are hard to come by on OS X, what games you can play run marvelously. We were able to play Half Life 2 at native 1920 x 1200 resolution with every setting cranked to high, and frame rates never dropped below 90 fps.
The device really faces a lack of a faster DVD drive and would be better to have a Blue-ray drive, The 8x SuperDrive is looking very tired.
A large data file was transferred between a MacBook Pro and a prototype Thunderbolt external drive very quickly. We can quite believe Intel’s claim that a full HD movie can transfer in around 30 seconds. It can operate at up to 10Gbps, which is twice as fast as USB 3.0 (5Gbps) and more than 20 times faster than USB 2.0 (480Mbps).
One of the lesser-known upgrades on this year’s new MacBook turns out to be a webcam that now captures true 720p HD video. Nice in theory, but bandwidth restrictions usually crush video conferences to quality well below 720p anyway.
Apple claims the Battery of macBook Pro lasts 7 hour on a full charge, in a test over WiFi the Battery could last five hours, 35 minutes on a full charge.
No products will come with a full perfect features, The Apple MacBook Pro still lacks some features though, and the device has comparatively higher performance. The popular unibody aluminium form factor is retained, but across-the-board component upgrades (SuperDrive excepted) gives it a huge performance improvement over its predecessor. Gamers and pros like video editors will appreciate the additional processing power, graphics power and speedy new Thunderbolt interface, the discrete GPU is a great step forward. The device will set you back $2499 that is in fact comparatively huge price. You can have the 13-inch Pro’s starting price is $1199, the 15 inch $1799. Despite the steep price premium, Apple’s flagship MacBook Pro 17-inch remains a shining example of the company’s great engineering.
