BMW M5 Concept Unveiled in Shanghai

BMW is at the Auto Shanghai 2011 motor show with the high performance Concept M5. Enjoying a world premiere, the Concept M5 is a premium class business saloon in the vein of M5 models gone before: luxury with performance.

What BMW has confirmed it has been the engine that will be under the hood of this prototype, being expected and rumored V8 petrol supercharged by two turbochargers. With respect to the previous generation V10 BMW M5, the German company indicates that the reduction in the number of pistons and the inclusion of the twin-charged, will make a reduction of over 25% consumption . If we stick to this information and review the use of the previous model, the reduction will go from 14.8 to at least 11.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Consumption reduction is also aided by other factors including the prototype, as the start-stop system  which stops the engine when the vehicle is not in motion, ordual-clutch gearbox and seven speeds . The previous generation already had a seven-speed, but this was not double clutch.

Another innovation we will see the arrival of the production model of the BMW M5 and is already present in the BMW M5 Concept is the Active M Differential , which is neither more nor less, as its name suggests, a new active differential in the rear axle for improved traction with both strong slippery as sharp bends or sudden changes of direction.
