Google announces WebM format for YouTube Videos

Google finally announced the new Format for its YouTube Videos, WebM the Format that globlizes the Videos running on the Browser so people won’t need different codecs to install on their system to watch youtube video on their browser.

Google has already started to convert all the Videos in to WebM format and presently they have already converted about 30% videos in to WebM format and rest of the videos will be being converted when the server aren’t busy.

YouTube aims to create a one format fits all standard by adopting WebM. In the future, this means videos played on different devices will all be streamed in the same format. At the same time, youtube will laso support H.264 formats, so users of browsers and devices that have no problem playing YouTube videos now won’t have to worry now.
