Lenovo LePad aka IdeaPad Tablet K1 to release soon; hits FCC today, Specs revealed

Lenovo has long promised that it would deliver a consumer Honeycomb tablet around the June time-frame and new FCC docs prove that the company is right on schedule. Lenovo will officially launching the LePad tablet globally next month, and the tablet’s timely arrival at the FCC as the “IdeaPad Tablet K1? is reassurance of that claim.

Manufactured by Compal, this is a variant of the China-only LePad compared to the shinier U1 Hybrid . Not only that, do take into consideration that Lenovo has already confirmed a global launch this June for the LePad, so it makes for perfect timing where this FCC document is concerned.

The tablet looks quite decent but the weakest link is the 1.3GHz Snapdragon QSD8650A processor on board, which sounds good on the surface until you hear it’s single core and Cortex A8 silicon. Most tablets these days have Nvidia Tegra 2 which is dual core (1GHz) and Cortex A9. While it has been on sale in China with Android 2.2 Froyo we expect no less than Honeycomb for its global release.

The LePad tablet was originally launched in China earlier this year. Lenovo had promised that the tablet will be coming to the U.S. in June with Android 3.0 Honeycomb on it. With the Chinese launch, the company had layered on its custom UI on top of Android 2.2.
