HTC EVO 3D Release Date in US on June 24 at Sprint; Priced as $199
Smartphones have officially entered the third dimension with the EVO 3D, the first handset in the U.S. with a glasses-free 3D screen. However, Sprint’s $199 follow-up to the hugely successful EVO 4G isn’t just about adding an extra dimension to pictures, videos, and movies and games. Evo 3D will be available from Sprint starting June 24 with a two-year contract.
The specs are about as high-end as you can get. First of all, according to BGR, the handset will live up to its name as it will have a 3D YouTube client and a 3D Blockbuster app. You will be able to view all of that 3D action on a 4.3 inch display with qHD resolution. Under the hood will be a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU with 4GB of internal memory and a 8GB microSD card expandable to 32GB. A dual 5MP camera on the back allows for 3D photos and 720p 3D video while 2D video is captured at HD 1080p. A 1.3MP front facing camera allows for video chat. Android 2.3 powers the show and an HDMI port and DLNA support make for easy viewing of the phone’s content on a television.
We have known that the HTC EVO 3D runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread since the initial announcement, but we now have confirmation that the HTC EVO View will get an upgrade to Android 3.1 Honeycomb when it becomes available. Until that happens, it will continue to run on Android 2.3 as well.Sprint Stores also open at 8 AM on June 24th for those looking to pick up either device on launch day. Customers can also opt to pre-order by purchasing a $50 Sprint gift card at any participating store. Skatter Tech will have an in-depth review as always, so stay tuned.
