Nokia N950 Meego Specs and Pictures leaked

The long awaited MeeGo device is finally a reality and it turns out it has a brother – the Nokia N950 is a developer’s platform running MeeGo and packs a QWERTY keyboard along with similar specs to that of the N9. Interestingly, pundits who attend the event also managed to see this Nokia N950 developer phone which gives us the impression the company may still push this device, despite of its previous problems.

The assumption was wrong. The slide out QWERTY keyboard bearing handset is nothing but the Nokia N950. This device was announced today by the company at the Nokia Connection Event. But don’t start thinking that you can easily get hold of one of these. Nokia has planned to make this a developers-only handset, which means that the N950 will be produced in limited numbers and will not be available commercially. The whole intention of this handset is to aid MeeGo developers in improving the new platform.

The Nokia N950 is likely one of the leaked MeeGo devices that was rumored to be the official MeeGo handset for this year. The N950 is not a consumer device – it comes with no warranty, beta software (which has issues) and overall may not work as well as a day-to-day device. Going back to the leaked N950 developer phone, it certainly looks like the one previewed before packing with a slider-QWERTY keyboard, 4-inch TFT LCD – a little bit outdated if you’ll compare it with N9’s crispy AMOLED screen. Resolution set to 854 x 480 pixels, comes with an 8MP shooter camera – contrary to the 12MP discovered before. Meanwhile, its other goodies include Bluetooth 2.1, built-in NFC chip and a 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Other differences include the lack of NFC module in the N950 and its digital compass isn’t as accurate and the battery is slightly smaller (1320mAh vs. 1450mAh). The software on the Nokia N950 isn’t finalized and won’t get an Over-the-Air update (but devs can flash it manually). Still, MeeGo is a very flexible platform and we’re guessing it won’t be long until someone ports the software from the N9 to the N950.

The device will bears resemblance to the N9 in terms of specs, but some differences can be spotted. This particular device will feature a fractionally larger 4 inch display which has a resolution of 480×854 pixels. On the processor front, both the devices will feature a 1GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM to run multiple applications without a hitch. There isn’t much info available besides that.

Likewise, its price and release date are being concealed, but expect the N950 to be the N9’s wingman judging from this leak.
