Google Maps 5.1 Update for Android released; brings many new Features
Google Map for Android has been update to 5.7 and brings many new features. The updated version is now available from the Android Market. Some of the new feature even let you get there where you want to go. GPS stop-by-stop public transit directions is a big feature and currently in beta.
The transit navigation feature gives you turn-by-turn directions using GPS while using public transit. This is available for more than 400 cities around the globe, means if you are on a city bus, it will let you know when to exit the vehicle to transfer to another bus.Interestingly, you don’t have to worry about missing the alert while you use another app on the Smartphone since the notification bar will alert you when you arrives the place or you can set up vibrate mode for further alert on the notification.
Google has also added category icons for search suggestions such as a pin for a Google Places recommendation or a star for a ‘starred’ place or location; a previously used search term will get a clock icon, a person icon appears for contacts while a magnifying glass appears for all others. Another feature is one click access to Navigation, means if you click any of the icon available, for example driving icon and you have selected a rout that is supported by Google Navigation, the familiar blue icon will appear and when clicked, will take you to the turn-by-turn directions.
Another cool feature is Photo viewer that helps you find or decide over places you have to go by looking at pictures of possible destination. The Google Maps 5.7 is completely for Android Smartphones and now available for download from Android Market. The app requires Android 2.1 or higher.
