Samsung NC215S Solar-powered Netbook release date delayed to August
Samsung”s NC215S solar netbook created quite a buzz recently when it went up for pre-orders on Amazon. However, its launch has been pushed back till August due to issues involving its solar panels. Word is Samsung is pushing the netbook back to “sometime in mid to late August” despite earlier promises of a July 3rd shipping date.
Liliputing has reached out to Samsung to see what the delay in shipping the netbook is. Apparently, there was a delay in getting the solar panels the rig needs. The delay in getting the solar panels means that the notebook will now ship in mid to late August. That is roughly a month wait if you want the netbook. You can still pre-order the rig on Amazon.
In terms of tech specs you get the dual core Intel Atom N570 (1.66GHz) processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, a 250GB SATA HDD, WiFi b/g/n, 10/100 Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0 and Windows 7 Starter. As previously mentioned it features a solar panel on the lid (see below) which will apparently give you 1 hour of battery life for every two hours of charging time (in the sun).
Exact reasons for the panels” faults are yet unclear, but this 10.1-inch netbook should be ready to greet the solar rays come mid or late August, according to news reports.
You can currently pre-order yourself the Samsung NC215S from , no indication of a shipping date is given, however Amazon’s listing does reveal that it measures in at 10.2 x 7.1 x 0.9 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds. Despite its solar panel this netbook is not much different in size and weight when compared to other models, for example the Samsung NC110-A01 netbook measures in at 10.4 x 7.4 x 0.97 and weighs 2.93 pounds.
