Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro Release Date confirmed as late September for UK
For those over here in the United Kingdom that may have had their eyes on picking up the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro smartphone soon, unfortunately you are still in for somewhat of a wait before you can get your mitts on the handset as it’s not shipping in the UK soon. According to the Sony Ericsson UK online store, the Xperia Pro will cost £349.99 sim-free when it becomes available in ‘late september’ of this year.
Now that may mean that Sony Ericsson’s online shop will have some Xperia Pro stock a bit before everyone else in the UK, or it may also mean that the delay has gotten smaller than what it initially expected it to be. Either way, there’s still a lot of waiting to do if you want this handset.
Spec wise the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro offers the user a 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen, a slide out QWERTY keyboard for the heavy texter of course, 8 megapixel rear facing auto-focus camera with LED flash and 720p video, VGA front facing camera, Mobile Bravia Engine, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, 320MB internal memory, microSD expansion up to 32GB and a 3.5mm jack.
Unfortunately though there is no word on just why the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro release in the United Kingdom has been delayed until that late September timeframe. However, whilst we loved the Xperia Play’s gaming strengths, it wasn’t quite so good at being ‘just a phone’. Here’s hoping the Xperia Pro has been refined a little since we saw it at Mobile World Congress 2011.
Outside of the delayed release date, details regarding the Xperia Pro remained unchanged. Customers will still be able to pick up the phone sim-free for £349.99.
The delay could spell disaster for the Xperia Pro. If the current consensus regarding the iPhone 5’s release date — which is far from uniform — is accurate then a September release would see the Xperia Pro compete with Apple’s latest handset for opening sales.
