Sony NEX-7 Release date soon? new images leaked, Price will be $1,200
DSLR purists might snub at the thought of a micro four third camera being perfect, but for those keen on HD video and capturing quality shots without carrying around endless amounts of gear, the M4/3 is a godsend. Sony could soon launch something that will fill-up your hands a whole lot better than their recent NEC-C3 system camera. Pictured above is what Sony Alpha Rumors believes could be the Sony NEX-7, an unnannounced camera that will be a step-up from the aged Sony NEX-5.
The mirror-less NEX-5 proved to be a popular choice amongst photography fans and the rumour mill has since been turning with news of a successor to the popular interchangeable lens camera. The image is thought to be a preproduction photograph, so the final NEX-7 camera might look a little different once launched. Its thought that the new NEX-7 will be equipped with a 3-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder and use the same 24 megapixel sensor that Sony used inside their A77 camera.
The new NEX-7 is pegged to use the same 24MP sensor that was inside the A77 that we have talked about already. The NEX-7 will also use a 3-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder. Sonyalpharumors points out specifically that the viewfinder is not a hybrid unit. You can see from the photo here that the camera has many buttons. In order to earn the title of ‘perfect micro four thirds’, we have a few requirements for the NEX-7. First, the hot shoe must support third party accessories. Second, the manual controls during video capture must support aperture and shutter speed. And finally, a 24 fps mode must be added to the list of capture modes if Sony wants to capture even a small percentage of the GH2 market.
Sony NEX-7 main features:
- The same 24MP sensor used on the unreleased Sony Alpha A77 DSLR camera
- A OLED electronics viewfinder that boasts 3-million dot resolution
- Dedicated buttons for manual aperture and shutter controls
- A Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 lens (that’s what’s pictured with the camera above)
- Pricing is expected to be in the $1,200 range
The lens is said to be a prototype and the camera might change before the official launch as well. Pricing is expected to be in the $1,200 range.
