Sony releases Sony Handycam HDR-PJ50 with Built-in Projector; Specs and Price

Sony has released a new handycam dubbed Sony Handycam HDR-PJ50, what interesting here is that this new cam will allow playback via projection so you don’t have to wait to watch it on a system or transfer it into a DVD.

Sony Handycam HDR-PJ50 can shoot and record in HD (1920×1080), then the projector behind the small LCD scree lets you  project it. it’s supposed to be able to project up to 60-inches diagonally at a distance of 3 meters in a dark environment. The HDR-PJ50  features a 12x optical zoom, a 220GB hard drive and device is said to be able to double as a still camera that can shoot up to 7.1MP images. Sony claims that the zooming can be increased up to 17 from the 12x.

Sony released this new Handy-cam in India and it is said that more handy-cams with projector and a Clear Phase 5.1 channel stereo speaker with S-master digital amplifiers to produce clear, dynamic sound to come soon. Handy-cam is apparently also able to connect to an external 5.1 home cinema system through the 3.5mm audio input. The cam is available for purchase at 59,990RS.

Although, the price of Sony HDR PJ50 is around Rs.60,000, the same product is sold in USA – for USD 1000/- which after converting to Indian Rupees comes to around Rs.45000/-. To my mind if the price is around Rs.50,000/- the product is worth buying . The camcorder looks to be good. If the Projector feature is taken out what should be the price of this product.
