ViewSonic ViewPad 7x aka Camangi Mangrove 7 release date in August and $615 Price tag for Japan

Everybody wants to be the first when it comes to announcing products with something new, and Viewsonic was the first to introduce a 7 inch Honeycomb tablet, the Viewpad 7x if you still remember. That’s right, in what could very well be the world’s first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet, the ViewSonic Viewpad 7x has been rebranded as the Camangi Mangrove 7 for its Japanese debut this August.

For features, the ViewSonic 7x will pack a 7inch Gorilla Glass display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of flash storage, a 2 megapixel camera at the front, and a 5 megapixel camera at the rear. Running Android 3.1, the Mangrove 7 also boasts of 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, GPS, mini HDMI output, and USB 2.0 slot.

The tablet gets its juice from a 1600mAh battery and weighs just 380 grams while having a thickness of 11.92 mm. The device is priced 49,800 yen in Japan for the Wi-Fi and HSPA version. This comes out to about $499 for the tablet when it reaches the USA.

The number of ports is also impressive, making the Viewsonic Viewpad 7x one of the most connected tablets in 2011: microUSB 2.0, a mini HDMI port and a microSD slot for more storage. WiFi and A-GPS are there too, but no sign of a 3G/4G modem (probably because of pricing reasons). Exactly when ViewSonic hopes to bring this tablet stateside is anyone’s guess but lets hope they can hit that sub $500 sweet spot when they finally do.
