ASUS has introduced a new notebook on the market belonging to the family ROG model G74SX-A1, can compete with the most advanced desktop for gaming. The laptop, which incorporates an Intel Core i7-2630QM and a video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M with 3 GB of dedicated memory, is a concentration of power and performance combined with a careful management of the autonomy of the 8-cell battery and an efficient cooling system.

The ASUS G74SX-A1 features a 17.3-inch full HD display, also available in 3D, and is characterized by a basic and very straightforward. The remaining specifications see the presence of 4 SO-DIMM slots that can accommodate up to 16 GB of DDR3 memory at 1,333 MHz, while for the storage you can use a configuration based on a hard drive up to 750 GB, 160 GB SSD or, alternatively, install two hard drives in RAID 0, so as to reach a maximum capacity of 1.5 TB.

There are also 3 USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, card reader, 3-in-1, an HD webcam, 802.11b/g/n WiFi module, Bluetooth 3.0, Blu-ray combo drive, Gigabit LAN and output HDMI.

The notebook from ASUS has already proved its value in the first published test online and will certainly give great satisfaction to the lovers of gaming on the move who prefer to buy a notebook instead of a desktop PC. HotHardware are available on site the results of tests carried out with the notebook”s main benchmark and several video games.

ASUS has designed the G74SX’s underside in such a way that it is devoid of any heat exhaust vents but otherwise, there really isn’t anything interesting going on here. There is however a large screw for quick and easy decoupling of a panel which hides the memory and HDD caddy.

The battery on this laptop is built directly into the chassis’ underside but can be removed by simply moving a few sliders which hold it in place. Since it is already packing an 8-cell battery (yes, that’s an 8-cell in the picture above) ASUS doesn’t offer any battery upgrade options for the G74SX.

Like a lot of systems, the G74SX-A1 comes bundled with a pile of pre-installed software, including (take a deep breath) Asus Tools, Asus Vibe Fun Center, eManual, GameFast, Asus WebStorage, Asus Virtual Camera, Power4Gear Hybrid, Rotation Desktop For G Series, Asus Splendid Utility, a Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security trial, and more.

The price for version with Intel Core i7-2630QM and 12 GB of memory is $1,749. All interested parties can find more information on the website of the product.

  • I purchased this computer about a month ago, and waited to write a review so i could get to know it better. I will say right now, i love this laptop, it can run just about everything with the graphics maxed like a breeze. The only exception to this that i have found is Shattered Horizon which i purchased from steam for $5, now $20. The game is a very intense outer space FPS, so the physics are so advanced and taxing on your processor that i had to stick to normal settings. The game is still absolutely fantastic you really don’t notice a difference in the levels of graphics anyways.
