Motorola releases Ice Cream Sandwich Update for XOOM Tablets
Finally Motorola has started to roll out the update for the early version of the XOOM Android tablet, the tablet released with Honeycomb was promised to get the update and some of the owners were informed about the update through their mail. The update was early teased as XOOM project and now confirmed it to be the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update as expected.
Motorola teased the update before it’s release with email as follows
Thanks for your patience as we’ve waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have.
However, I’m happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend.
Anyway, Motorola seems to roll out the update for a select XOOM WiFi owners at first. If everything is fine, the update will be delivered for masses. Even though every owners of the XOOM tablet may not be expecting the update, since some of them may have already got it done with stable ICS builds via the ROM modding community, an official release is always well. And finally XOOM owners can at least have an official Ice Cream Sandwich on their device. One thing to note that the update is coming soon after the ASUS updated it Transformer Prime to ICS. Anyway, the update for the original Transformer will only be released later this month or early in February.
