MWC 2012: ASUS PadFone to be released in April; Specs and Hands-on
We have been hearing about the PadFone from ASUS for a while, first it was just a concept, but ASUS has managed to mold it to reality with slim formfactor. ASUS has displayed the PadFone with its stylus and the tablet frame that can be used as dock at MWC 2012. This time ASUS has added couple of new features like a Galaxy Note-style stylus that doubles as a Bluetooth headset.
When it comes to Hardware, the ASUS PadFone stands more than a mid range Android tablet, the PadFone is powered by popular 1.5ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 along with 1GB RAM and sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, new Adreno 225 GPU, 8MP camera with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture and 16-64GB of internal storage plus microSD slot.
For the connectivity, the ASUS PadFone features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, A-GPS and 42Mbps HSPA+ radio. The it gets the juice from a a 1,520mAh battery. The ASUS PadFone is an Android 4.0 ICS device and the transition from phone to table takes the advantage of Ice Cream Sandwich’s dual nature that instantly shifts the user interface as needed.
As docking device, you may get calls on your phone when it is in the tablet mode, but certainly it is not ideal to make a call on 10 inch device, that is where ASUS has introduced the new bluetooth headset/stylus, if the PadFone is in tablet mode when call comes, the headset automatically activated. The phone weights 129 grams and the station is 724 grams.
If you want to use the PadFone in a tablet mode, you can slide the device into a 10.1 inch tablet frame with 1280×800 resolution that convert the device into a tablet of 10.1″ screen and will extend the battery life of the device with a 6600 mAh battery. There is also another dock which lets you have a detachable keyboard accessory as on the transformer series that comes with Stylus, and once docked with the keyboard, the device transform into a complete netbook solution, means it is an all in one solution on the go.
Unfortunately, release date and price of the ASUS Pad are mystery and all we have known is the ASUS PadFone will go on sale in April. Check out the Hands-on video below.
