Nokia to introduce Superhydrophobic Waterproof Lumia and PureView Devices
We have already seen some waterproof devices and waterproofing technology like nanocoating. If you want your device to be waterproof, it is easy to get it done and companies like Liquipel and HzO already offer the solution for your devices and apply the technology each and every devices in the market. But now it seems like Nokia is prepping their own waterproofing technology for all of its future Nokia Lumia and PureView devices.
Vice President of Nokia Western Europe, Conor Pierce revealed something about its own technology called hydrophobic that its research team in Cambridge has developed and will bring it to the reality applying it to future Lumia and PureView devcies.
“What happens when a drop of water lands on a lotus leaf… has baffled scientists for generations… but our team in Cambridge UK found a solution.
Nano technology lets us do it. Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, rolls it off the device and leaves it water impregnant, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party.”
Nokia last year showed the technology applied to the Nokia 700. One of the interesting thing with the Nokia is that the company is looking forward to introduce devices with nanocoating outside as well as inside unlike current waterproof phones. It makes sense a lot, even if the water gets inside, it won’t do any damage. There was a rumor that Samsung and Apple plan to bring their devices with nanocoating technology. Anyway, Nokia VP was mum about when when the company will start producing devices with superhydrophobic technology.
