Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS rugged Camera to be released in June; Specs and Price
Camera manufacturers face competition and pressure from smartphones with cameras and companies are coming with more advanced features for its compact cameras. Olympus has unveiled its new rugged camera on its point-and-shoot lineup, dubbed Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS and boasts of first high-speed bright f2.0 lens on a Tough waterproof camera.
The new Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS features new 12 megapixel BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor with a updated TruePi VI image processor. The camera has a superfast shutter speed and fast autofocus, and enables the “super sport mode”, a 60 fps (at 3 MP – 10fps at 12 MP) shooting mode with a maximum shutter speed of 1/2000.
The new Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS is capable of shooting videos at 1080p Full HD and features 4X optical zoom, 8x digital zoom and 3-inch high resolution OLED display (610k dots). There is an LED illuminator in the front, geo-tagging with GPS and e.compass for root tracking that uses Google earth and Picasa web applications.
The Olympus Tough TG-1 camera is waterproof to 12 m / 40 feet, freeze proof down to -10°C/14°F, shockproof to 2m/6.6 feet, crushproof to a weight of 100 kg/220lbs and dustproof. Double-locking battery and HDMI port doors will protect the camera compartments from dust and water while a repellant coating helps fight water build-up on the lens.
According to Olympus, the new Tough TG-1 iHS rugged camera release date is in June and will be priced at $399.99.
