Microsoft Surface Tablets for Windows 8 Pro and RT official; Specs and Hands-on (Video)As we expected,  Microsoft  unveiled its new Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro “Surface” tablets, price and release date are yet to be revealed though. Steve Ballmer was announcing the new Microsoft Surface Tablets at the event in Los Angeles. The tablet should allow the Microsoft to push the best features of the Microsoft Windows 8 OS.

The tablet expected to be the one to challenge the Apple’s iPad certainly has a neat and impressive form factor with QWERTY keyboard cover making it productive without compromising the mobility. Both Microsoft Surface for Windows RT and Surface for Windows 8 Pro feature the QWERTY keyboard cover that is impressively thin as well as spacious with trackpad on it.

The Microsoft Surface tablet is very thin at 9.3mm and has a beveled edges at 22 degrees that gives the tablets unique look while the Surface for Windows 8 Pro is a bit thicker at 13.55mm. The entire Surface tablet for Windows RT  scales at  676 grams while the Surface Pro at 903 grams.The Microsoft Surface tablets are 10.1 inch in size and whole things that make up the tablets have a magnesium body with a built-in Kickstand that will give you perfect viewing angle while watching videos and using keyboard with your Surface tablet.

The Microsoft Surface Tablet for Windows RT will be powered by ARM processor while the Surface for Windows 8 Pro will be powered by Intel’s third generation Ivy Bridge Core i5 22nm processors. Both Surface tablets feature 10.6 inch  ClearType HD display with 1366 x 768 pixel while the Surface for Windows 8 Pro with FUll HD resolution.

Microsoft Surface tablets feature built-in front and rear facing cameras called LifeCams. The rear camera is angled to 22 degrees that you can capture events hand-free flipping out the Kickstand. The Surface Tablet also feature Stereo speakers and dual microphones tuned for Skype.

Even though the Surface for Windows RT is thin at 9.3mm, Microsoft has managed to provide all ports you would expect for such tablet. The Surface  for Windows RT has ports and other connectivity options like  a full sized USB 2.0 port, microSD, Micro HD Video and 2×2 MIMO antennae. The tablet will also feature WiFi connectivity for your internet needs.

On other hand, the Surface for Windows 8 Pro has connectivity options like USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort, 2×2 MIMO antennae and microSDXC card slot. The Pro version comes with a  42W-h battery while the Windows RT version with 31.5W-h.

The Surface QWERTY cover is smart enough to know if you need it or not, like when you move the cover back, the cover will not function as it figures that you no longer need it. The cover connects the tablet with magnets, like the Smart Cover on iPad. The Keyboard cover comes in variety of colors to choose from.

The Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro also feature Digital ink pen that is smooth and easy to use on the surface of the extremely responsive tablet. There will be two digitizer unlike most of the tablets out there,  one for touch and one for digital ink. All stylus or pen input is converted into digital ink.The distance between the screen (digitizer) and the stylus is only .7mm thick that lets the tablet to be accurate in response. The Surface tablet will stop recognizing hand input once you started using stylus. The Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro is in fact a full fledged PC combined with tablet features.

The Microsoft Surface for Windows RT will come in two flavors of storage that include 32GB and 64GB  while the Surface tablet for Windows 8 Pro will be available in 64 and 128GB models.

“We believe that any intersection between human and machine can be made better when all aspects of the experience — hardware and software — are considered and working together,”  said Ballmer at the event.

Unfortunately the Microsoft hasn’t revealed anything about the actual release date or pricing  except a clue that the Microsoft Surface Pro will share the same price range as that of Ultrabooks. The Surface tablet for Windows RT will be released when the Windows 8 is launched in October, while the Microsoft Surface Pro release date will be three months later.
