Amazon has finally launched its mostly anticipated tablet Kindle Fire HD. The tablet series include new 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD as well as the revamped version of 7 inch Kindle Fire. Amazon’s aim by releasing the new tablet is to get major share of the tablet market that us dominated by iPad and the Android tablets. Amazon was entering the tablet battle with its first 7 inch Kindle Fire version.

In the market, there are two types of consumers, one those who only use particular brand, another who are looking for devices with better specs and performance and if it is available for cheap price, that will be their choice. So when it comes to a comparison, price is a major aspect that will affect the total market. what I can see is that Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 certainly a direct rival to the Apple iPad 3 in many ways. Let’s take a look at the spec comparison below.

let’s take a loot at the price, there are several options on Kindle Fire HD and price varies  based on fractures and storage. Both tablets are powered by a dual-core processor  and both companies claims that the processors outperform the Tegra 3 Quad-core. Anyway, Amazon Kindle Fire is powered by Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. On the other hand, the Apple’s new iPad 3 is powered by a dual-core A5x processor clocked at 1GHz. The iPad 3 has a 1GB of RAM  while there is no info about the memory of new Kindle Fire HD 8.9, but hopefully it features a minimum of 1.5GB RAM, considering Kindle Fire with 1Gb of RAM.

When it comes to display, the Apple iPad 3 has a little bigger 9.7 inch retina display with a resolution of staggering 2048 x 1536 Resolution and  264 PPI. On the other hand, the Kindle Fire also features pretty good 8.9 inch HD LCD with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 254ppi pixel density as well as a laminated touch sensor for better visuals and 25-percent less glare. Amazon claims there will be great reduction in glare as this screen has no “air gap” between the glass and the display.

If you are into device with rear camera, certainly, the Kindle Fire HD is not for since it doesn’t feature such one whereas iPad has both front and rear camera. The iPad feature 5MP rear camera, capable of capturing 1080p video at 30 FPS and 0.3MP front-facing camera for video call. But, rear camera for a huge tablet may not be that important for some people but need a front-facing camera for video,  then The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has an HD camera so that you can make video calls. The camera should either be 720p or 1080p.

When it comes to Wireless connectivity, there are WiFi only version as well as 4G LTE version in both Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and iPad 3. Amazon claims that its WiFi technology faster than other devices with a dual-band and dual-antenna  and promise a download speed of 31MBPS while iPad only features single antenna, but both Kindle and iPad has 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals.  When  it comes to 4G LTE, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 features 4G LTE 10 band wireless modem whereas Apple iPad 3 is promised to reach up to 73Mbps download speed and can chose wireless service on different network.  Amazon Kindle Fire HD  is offered its 4G LTE service by AT&T. Both tablet features Bluetooth connectivity.

In terms of OS, Amazon Kindle Fire HD is running on highly customized its own Android Ice  Cream Sandwich based OS and comes with many built-in features like Whispersync and X-Ray as well as Facebook and Skype applications. Amazon has also included a  new and improved email client, utilizing the larger and high-resolution display and new parental control that will enable the parents to dictate how long can be spent on  reading, playing games, or watching videos. On the other hand the Apple iPad 3 is running on latest iOS 5.1.1 with several new features.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablet measures 9.45 inch x 6.5 inch x 0.35 inch  and weighs 20 oz. The Apple iPad 3 measures 9.50 inch x 7.31 inch x 0.4 inch and weighs 23 oz. So the iPad is a little heavier than the Kindle Fire HD 8.9.
