Apple iPhone 5 launches; Specs, Price and Release Date

Finally, Apple has officially announced its new smartphone iPhone 5. The device was unveiled at the event along with its latest iOS and iPod nano. Interestingly, most of the rumors and leaks have turned out to be true with the new iPhone 5. The new iPhone is slim  and 18% thinner than its predecessor at  7.6mm,  and weighs  20% less than the iPhone 4S at 112 grams.

The new Apple iPhone 5 is built from glass and aluminum, and is almost identical to its predecessor in look despite the larger display. In terms of specifications, the new iPhone 5 is powered by  Apple’s new A6 processor that apple claims  is better than the A5 – twice as fast in terms of both CPU and graphics and sports a “taller” 4 inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136×640 pixels and 326ppi that shows  five rows of icons and runs on iOS 6.

The new Apple iPhone features an 8MP camera with  BSI, a hybrid IR filter, and an aperture of f/2.4 and sensor 25% smaller this time and 72p front-facing camera. The device also features a panorama mode that lets you capture high-resolution stills. The new iPhone 5 has three microphones, noise-cancelling earpiece, smaller speaker and brand-new Lightning connector.  The camera on the rear can capture videos at 1080p and boasts improved video stabilization and features face detection.

For connectivity, along with other features, the new iPhone also has a LTE support unlike the most anticipated iPhone4S as well as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA and  dual-band Wi-Fi. The Apple iPhone 5 is the first smartphone from Apple to support LTE connectivity. The device FaceTime will get over cellular that will let the FaceTime call mobile networks instead of having to rely on WiFi. The iPhone 5 packs three microphones – one on the front, one on the bottom and final one on the back. The new iPhone also utilizes a new dock connector named “Lightning” and the Apple has also revealed an adapter that will let devices that rely on the old 30-pin connector to work with the new iPhone.

On the software side, there is a new Maps that supports  voice guided navigation, 3D and satellite imagery, 3D flyover. The browser safari is coming with updated version, featuring  full-screen mode and iCloud tabs. The Siri on iPhone 5 has also got some improvements.

The iPhone gets power from a battery that is good for up to 225 hours of standby, 8 hours of talk time over 3G and up to 8 hours of browsing over 3G or LTE.

The Apple iPhone 5 will be available in two colors, black and white, aluminum finish will differ from the two colors-  slate for the black one and silver for the white. The iPhone 5 will come in different GSM and CDMA version. The list includes  a GSM model A1428 and a CDMA model A1429.  There is also a GSM model called A1429 supporting 1, 3 and 5 which is expected to be the international version. GSM A1428  with support for HSPA+, DC-HSDPA, and LTE, should be used on AT&T and Canadian carriers, while A1429 will be headed to Verizon.

Now eager to know the price and release date ?Apple has revealed new iPhone 5 price and pre-order date fortunately. The Apple new iPhone 5 will be available in three flavors of storage that include 16, 32 and 64GB. The iPhone 5 16GB is priced at $199, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model. The new iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order starting September 14th  and will ship in countries like  US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore on the September 21st. And if you are looking for the release date for the new iOS 6 update, the iOS 6 will be released on September 19.
