Android 4.2 Jelly Bean announced; offers several new Features

Google has finally launched its next version of Android, keeping the name Jelly Bean. New version of the software is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with several new features and enhancements.  let’s take a look at the new features.

Multiple User Accounts

The new Android 4.2 for tablet is coming with multiple user-support, so your tablet can be used by your family members and even friends with their own account to open their widget, apps, and  each account will have its own homescreen. Once logged-in with your account you will be welcomed with your own homescreen and you can use your apps and do other activities.

Settings center in the notifications drawer

Now you can do various actions like toggling Wi-Fi, adjusting screen brightness, go to Airplane mode, and more. all these are managed via expandable notifications on the top  right.

Gesture Typing

Swype is well-known for its gesture typing but forget about it and meet Android’s own Gesture Typing and works very similar to the Swype. Just swipe over the letters you want to type,  lifting after each word is complete. The new Gesture Typing feature utilizes already existing Android word prediction, and it suggests words and you can click on the words pop up. There is also offline voice typing service  offering an all-round great texting experience.

Photo Sphere

Android 4.2 introduce a cool feature named Photo Sphere, it is a panorama mode  and allows you shoot photos in multiple directions like up, down, left and right. Once captured and saved you can navigate around the whole images and share the image on Google+ and contribute the Photo Sphere to Google Maps.

Google Now gets updated

Google has also added a lot of new cards to its Google Now service and the service can feed data directly from Gmail, which will provide new cards, such as package shipments info. There are several other new cards for  events, restaurant reservations, hotels, and flights.

Some of the cards like hotels and flights are  location specific. There are also cards like movie screenings,  stocks, public alerts and developing stories & breaking news.

Anyway, it will take time to hit world-wide, but hopefully Google will work hard to make it available in the near future.

Wireless TV integration

Now you can wirelessly share your Android smartphone screen with a big screen TV set. All you need to do is connect a wireless display adapter to an HDMI-enabled TV and it will start mirroring whats on your screen using DLNA. The Google took a little longer to make it available on Android while many custom launchers has already had it.

Widgets on the lock screen

Now you can add a widget to lockscreen. It is just a click away and your widget will be shown on the lockscreen.

Google has also introduced new feature called Dadream, a sort of a screensaver. Once turned on, you can set it up and it will show photo albums, latest news from Google Currents and more when you Android device is docked or idle.

There are several minor additions as well as various improvements. One of them is pinch-to-zoom is now enabled  in Gmail for enhanced reading, triple-tap to magnify the entire homescreen and the pan and zoom with two fingers, and for visually impaired users there is  speech output and gesture mode navigation.

Now you might be thinking of release date of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, unfortunately there is no specific release date, but expect the new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to hit Android devices once the Nexus devices like Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 go on sale.
