Finally it is official, RIM ( BlackBerry now ) has announced its first BlackBerry 10 devices at the anticipated BlackBerry event. BlackBerry is introducing its completely new platform with a huge expectations to regain its lost-glory. The smartphones are not new to anyone as both fully touch BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 with QWERTY keyboard were leaked several times before. And Even the QWERTY Q10 has a touch interface.
The BlackBerry Z10 is fully touchscreen device unlike the Q10 and has a powerful specs under the hood that will make it withstand other smartphones of its kind. The device has a cool patterned soft-touch material on the back and overall neat design with a curved corners which resembles iPhone 4. The smartphone should stay safe in your hand with a 4.2″ inch display and shouldn’t feel too large like Galaxy S III.
The BlackBerry Z10 is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait processor and boasts a 4.2-inch screen with a 1,280 x 768 resolution and 356ppi pixel density. The smartphone has a 2GB of RAM and should give you a smooth multitasking experience. The BlackBerry Z10 has a 16GB of storage, thanks to the microSD card slot you are not stuck with 15GB.
On the rear sits an 8MP camera with an LED flash. The camera is capable of shooting videos at 1080p, and there is also a 2MP front unit that will provide HD video for your video call purpose. For connectivity, there are usual features such as HDMI port, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and even NFC. The BlackBerry Z10 also has 4G LTE capability depending on markets.
The smartphone has 9 mm thick and will be available in black and white, even though only in black at the launch. The BlackBerry Z10 will be offered by all major carriers including Verizon and should start announcing pre-orders today. The BlackBerry Z10 is expected to hit the market in March while the Canada should see it February for CAD149.99 on the usual 3-year contract. In UK the smartphone will be released tomorrow via major carriers. Pricing for US carriers are yet to be announced, but report says $200 from all major carriers like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint on two-year contract.
The BlackBerry didn’t want to disappoint its hardcore QWERTY lovers, so the company has the QWERTY BlackBerry Q10 which comes with keys sitting in straight line, edge to edge which is a small change from usual curvy design. Despite the fact QWERTY, the device has a touchscreen on board.
The BlackBerry Q10 is powered by the same processor and sports a 3.1-inch, 720×720 pixel AMOLED touchscreen, front and rear cameras with LED flash on the back. The smartphone boasts a “glass weave cover” which the company claims thinner, lighter, and stronger than plastic.
On the software side, you won’t have to be worried about applications, at the launch there are 70,000 apps which include all major apps like Skype, WhatsApp, Angry Birds, SoundHound, Where’s My Water, Amazon Kindle and more.
When it comes to availability and pricing for the BlackBerry Q10, it is still a mystery but the smartphone is expected to be offered by all major carriers, but in US consumers shouldn’t expect the device till March 2013.
