Firefox OS Keon and Peak Developer Preview Phone announced; releasing in February
Many developers out there must be eager to see the first smartphone running on Firefox OS. Well making the dream come true, Mozilla has revealed its first devices for Firefox OS . The smartphones are developer edition named Keon and Peak targeting at both affordable and mid-end market.
The Keon, Firefox OS Developer Preview Phone is an entry-level device comes powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon S1 chipset and features 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, and a 3-megapixel camera. The smartphone also features 512MP of RAM, 4GB of ROM and a 1,580 mAh battery. Unfortunately, the Keon lacks a front-facing camera.
On the other hand, the Peak comes with a decent specs inside. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor running at 1.2GHz and packs a 4.3-inch qHD IPS display, an 8-MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing unit, 512MP of RAM and 4GB of ROM.
For connectivity, the Peak has WiFi b/g/n, GPS, triband UMTS (2100/1900/900) and quadband GSM/EDGE as well as sensors such as light and proximity sensors and a g-sensor. The Mozilla Peak packs a standard a 1,800mAh battery.
Both Keon and peak will be offered unlocked and SIM-free, making it possible for developers to use their own SIM and start coding for the platform. According to Mozilla, both Developer Preview Phones will start shipping in February, unfortunately, pricing and exact release date are yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, ZTE is expected to introduce Firefox OS smartphones in Europe.
