Honda unveils Urban SUV Concept at Detroit Auto Show
Honda has debuted its latest Urban SUV concept at the Detroit Auto Show 2013. The urban muscle man looks fit, and features a clean taut lines and “hidden” rear door handles. The concept is expected to hit the Japanese road later this year but US customers will have to wait till 2014. The car is aimed at those who just prefer SUVs wherever they go.
The model is based on the Global Compact Series platform, including Jazz/Fit subcompact hatchback and the City saloon. The concept will use Honda’s fuel-efficient “Earth Dreams” powerplants.
The Honda Urban SUV measures a 4,300 mm (169.3 in) long which is 23cm shorter than the compact CR-V. Unfortunately, Honda hasn’t revealed much about its specs but has promised a “a modern interior and next-generation telematics” and “Magic Seat” which is a flexible rear-seat set-up that comes with many configuration based on passenger and load needs. The Urban SUV will also adopt the Fit’s center-fuel tank layout.
According to Honda, production model of the new Urban SUV concept will be manufactured at the Honda’s new plant in Mexico. The production will begin in spring 2014 with an annual capacity of 200, 000 units.
