New 2014 Lexus IS 250 and 350 official at the Detroit Auto Show
At Detroit Auto Show Lexus lifted the curtain of its latest sport sedan on its IS series. The new models debuted ahead of its worldwide launch this summer. The models include Lexus IS 250, and IS 350 and will be offered with an initial choice of two gasoline engines.
“Every aspect of the new IS has been engineered with a focus on sporting performance, agile handling, accurate response to driver input and highly communicative feedback,” says the car’s Chief Engineer Junichi Furuyama.
Design-wise, the new IS series have a brand’s trademark spindle grille and the odd-looking headlamp clusters with “Nike” logo-shaped LED accents sitting on the bottom. For the first time, Lexus IS models will get an F Sport trim benefiting from both unique sporting design features inside and out and enhanced driving dynamics.
The new IS models offer a new Drive Mode Select system, switchable into Eco, Normal, & Sport. Spec-wise, the Lexus IS 250 and IS 360 are powered by a 2.5-liter V6 gas and a 3.5-liter V6 gas engines respectively. Both engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and will be offered in rear and all-wheel drive options.
In Detroit, the company also announced a IS 300h model which will come with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine linked to an electric motor and will be available in Europe, Japan and select international markets.
For interior, the new IS models feature refined cabin materials, trims and finishes and the company has added new technological features. The new models have a wider body at 0.4 inches and longer wheelbase at 2.8-inches. The cars are spacious enough inside for both passengers and luggage capacity with 3.3-inch more knee room than the current model. The rear seat also features a 60:40 split-folding function.
There is also touch-sensitive keys for HVAC, and touchscreen infotainment with real-time traffic and weather information as well as steering wheel gets controls for both the driver’s display and the center console screen. There is no compromise for safety, now the new IS models have ten airbags, lane-departure alerts, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and more.
