Samsung Galaxy S IV officially announced; releasing in April

Finally it is no more a mystery or rumors, Samsung has lifted the cover of the most anticipated flagship device, Samsung Galaxy S IV. The device was announced at the Samsung event. As expected, the device is almost identical to its predecessor despite the fact of thin bezel and huge display. Just like its predecessor, the device has a round corners and plastic back, but Samsung has managed to make it lighter and thinner than Galaxy S III. The device design is complete with a metallic bezel that gives the device a premium look.

Specs-wise, the global version of the Galaxy S IV is powered by  four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.6GHz, four Cortex-A7 cores running at 1.2GHz on  Exynos 5 Octa chipset with PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU while the second version for some markets will be running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset with its 4 Krait 300 cores and Adreno 320 GPU. Fortunately, both version will come with LTE support on board and 2GB of RAM, which is ample enough for a smooth multitasking.

The Samsung Galaxy S IV has a  4.99″ Super AMOLED screen, yet the device looks compact for such size. The display offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 441ppi pixel density with a deep blacks and great viewing angles. There is volume rocker on the left and a lock key on the right hiding an IR blaster.

The smartphone has a 13 MP at the back with an LED flash which is promised to offer stunning pictures as a combined result of its software magic. The device has a 2.1MP front-facing camera for video call purposes. The cameras offer Dual shot to simultaneously record footage. The camera also offers eye-tracking and hand-tracking.

The smartphone will e offered in three versions of storage that include 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models and fortunately all models will have a microSD card slot for further expansion. The device has an ampler 2600mAh battery that should serve the device power all day.  Samsung Galaxy S IV is compact for its size, measuring at 7.9mm and weighs at 130g.

On the software side, the Galaxy S IV runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with improved TouchWiz UI and brings in several software features such as Sound and Shot allowing user to capture  9 second clips with sound, Drama Shot which combines a burst of photos into a single image and Cinema Photo  which lets you capture videos and select which part to be animated or static in a GIF format. The device also lets you erase things from image.

The Samsung Galaxy S IV includes a wellness package, an application named S Health which can measure steps, calories and even the comfort of your surroundings – temperature, humidity, etc. S Band and Heart Rate monitor accessories are required for these features. There is also S Translator which can translate all major languages and works with email and ChatON. More languages will be added later on.

Samsung has also announced 4 different covers and cases that include Pouch which is soft slide-in case, Protective Case which seems to be a hard plastic in variety of colors, Flip Cover which also comes in many colors and new S View Cover. Pricing for these covers are yet to be announced.

Finally it is availability, unfortunately there is no exact release date or pricing details, but according to Samsung the new Galaxy S IV will be launched around the end of April globally while some US carriers have announced that they will be offering the device in Q2. In US, all major carriers which including Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile will offer the new Galaxy S IV. Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S.Cellular have officially announced their interest in the new Galaxy S 4.
