Nokia Lumia 1520 goes official; features 6″ Full HD display, quad-core processor and more

Finally the first Windows Phone 8 phablet is official and it is from none other than Nokia as rumored, the device is named Lumia 1520. The Nokia Lumia 1520 was announced at the Nokia World event in Doha. The device at first look gives a best impression with Nokia’s unique design and under the hood lies its power with quad-core processor bringing the Windows Phone to the world of quad-cores.

Nokia Lumia 1520 is built around the same Polycarbonate body in the same traditional and unique design of Lumia devices. The device measures 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm, that is pretty impressive with huge 3400 mAh battery inside. The device weighs in at 209g  as it has a wireless charging coil built in. On the back lies a PureView camera with an LED flash  while on the rights side you have different harware keys to unlock the device, and adjust volume.

The power lies inside the device, spec-wise, you could consider the Nokia Lumia 1520 the best one out there with such a huge screen. The device is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2 GHz boasting to be the faster Windows Phone 8 device so far. Windows Phone 8 OS has always been smoother, with the power inside along with 2GB of RAM  you won’t have to be worried about multi-tasking capability of the device.

When it comes to screen, the device has 6″ screen boasting PureMotion HD+ technology coupled with Nokia’s ClearBlack filter and sunlight readability tech. The screen is 1080×1920 pixels Full HD LCD screen at 367pi pixel density adding an extra row of  WP8 Live Tiles on the homescreen. All these features and technology mean you are going to have a bright screen for your Lumia 1520 with vivid colors and great viewing angle. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

This time Nokia has  added a microSD card slot, so that you can expand the memory further. The device has a 32GB of built-in storage. Interestingly  the company has also added the Lumia 1520′s polycarbonate casing with four microphones, providing multimicrophone noise cancellation in calls as well as Nokia’s proprietary Rich sound recording.

On the back is 20 MP camera with the same PureView technology, not as huge as the Lumia 1020 though, removing the bump on the back, the device looks neat. The camera shoots videos at 1080p  and offers 2x lossless digital zooming. The camera has Optical Image Stabilization. Instead of Nokia’s favorite Zenon flash,  the Lumia 1520 features a dual-LED flash. For video call purposes, there is a 1.2 MP camera which features a wide-angle lens for better self-shots. For other camera features on the software side, there is a new camera app named Nokia Camera which combines features from both Pro Camera on the 1020 and Smart Camera on Lumia 925. There is also another software for the camera named Nokia Storyteller which makes an automatic journal for users photos. The storyteller as it name suggests, it helps the user remember the story behind each photo, as it tracks the places photos are taken and clusters together images burst at the same place. Based on focus, faces in view, and other factors, the app can identify the best shots and highlights those in the gallery while it also supports manual selection and saves all shots.

For connectivity, the Nokia Lumia 1520 features usual Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac with channel bonding, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0.For faster internet connectivity, the device has 4G LTE up to 150 Mbps, HSDPA up to 42.2 Mbps and HSUPA up to 5.76 Mbps.

The device includes something called Lumia Black and things like Nokia HERE Drive+ with global free turn-by-turn navigation, true offline support and speed limit warnings. There is also a Nokia Beamer app as well as Microsoft’s new suite of Bing apps and customized ringtones for individual contacts.
