Vivo Xplay 3S with 2K display announced in China
Vivo has beaten back the Oppo by announcing the first smartphone featuring 2K display. We early expected that Oppo would be the first to introduce smartphone with 2k display, but as we thought, the history repeats itself, Oppo missed its chance. Vivo has announced its new smartphone dubbed Vivo Xplay 3S that is huge with staggering 2,560 x 1,440 resolution display which will give you a whopping 490ppi pixel density.
The phablet looks neat in design and has a slim form factor, at first glance it has HTC One Max-like look but thinner and bigger than the One Max. The smartphone/phablet has round corners and edge to edge display with thinner bezel. There are physical keys immediate below the screen. Back body has a slight curve. There are two speakers on the back that was neatly placed underneath the long grille. The device looks premium at the first glance with its metallic bezel, and the device is ultra thin at 4.5mm, yet housing pretty beefy battery inside.
In terms of specifications, the Vivo Xplay 3S is powered by a fast Snapdragon 800 chipset boasting quad-core Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz. The smartphone/phablet has 3GB of RAM, so no worries of running out of memory while multitasking. On the graphic side, the device features Adreno 330 GPU and offers a built-in 32GB of storage.
On the back of the Vivo Xplay 3S is 13MP camera with a fast f/1.8 aperture, guess about front-camera!, yes it is 5MP. There is a finger print scanner next to the back camera. The camera shoots videos at 1080p Full HD. Vivo has also managed to build its own camera app called Photo+ featuring augmented reality and lets you share your video to the cloud.
For connectivity, the device has dual-mode LTE and other usual connectivity features as well as stereo speakers, DTS sound with the Xplay 3S TI OPA2604 amp, ESS Technology ES9018 DAC, and the box also includes a DTS headphone which enables 7.1. On he software side, the Vivo Xplay 3S will be running on custom android OS which the company calls Funtouch OS. This device houses a 3200mAh battery.
The Vivo Xplay 3S phablet should go on sale in the near future in China with pre-order starting soon at a price of CNY 3,498 ($580). Chinese retailer Tmall will be selling the phablet, no exact release date though.
