Ford to unveil C-Max Solar Energi Concept at CES 2014
CES is all about Electronic show and we don’t normally see vehicles but this time Ford is bringing something surprising to the show. The company has a plan to unveil its solar-powered C-Max next week. The Ford C-Max Solar Energi Concept will get around 100 MPGe . The car is the result of collaboration between Ford and its solar energy partner SunPower.
You may have seen several solar concepts in the past, but this model is really different from them all, with more practical design and space inside. The car was first tested in Georgia Institute of Technology and comes equipped with a full solar roof making sure the car absorbs enough energy from the sun. It will take a day in the sun to get the vehicle fully charged and will last 4 hours at a charge. As the solar panel is fixed on the roof, car will get enough charge even while running and the car is certainly coming with an option to load electric charge if necessary.
The solar panel on the roof is specially designed for maximum absorption of sun light, with the cells that absorb light through Fresnel lenses, which tracks the movement of the sun from east to west.
The Ford C-Max Solar Energi Concept has a range of 620 solar miles and 21 electric-only miles.According to Ford, the car provides as much mileage as C-Max plugin out there, which is 108 MPGe city and 92 MPGe on highway.
It is not sure if the model will go into production, the company is looking forward to the consumers response at the CES. So do you think this is the future cars going to run on our roads?
