Acer Chromebook 13 CB5 with NVIDIA K1 CPU on Pre-order; pricing $279
A few days ago Acer teased its upcoming Chromebook on a video. Finally the latest Chromebook is up for pre-order and available from Acer. The new device dubbed Chromebook 13 ( CB5 or CB5-311P ) is going to give its competitors a run for their money. The device boasts juicy all-day-lasting battery and relatively robust specs inside, making the device stand out from the crowd.
Unlike other Chromebooks, the new Acer device is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 processor which NVIDIA claims to outperform other processor such as Intel’s and Samsung’s. NVIDIA also said that the Tegra K1 has three times more the graphics performance than the Bay Trail or Samsung’s chip. The company also pointed out the quad-core architecture. The biggest selling point however is its battery life. The device can last up to 13 hours at a single charge that is 5 hours longer than other Chromebooks out there.
It doesn’t end there, the device comes in two configuration in terms of its display, a 1366 x 768 display and a full HD, 1920 x 1080 display. Other features also based on your budget. The lower-end model with 1366 x 768 display, a 16GB SSD and 2GB of RAM can be bought for a price of $279. And yes your choice will most likely be the one with Full HD resolution, but you will have see an extra $20 with same RAM and storage. I would certainly get the HD version for that price. And if you are a spec-hungry geek, you may want to check out the higher end of three models, but not without an extra hundred bucks. For $379, you can get Acer Chromebook CB15 with Full HD resolution display, a 32GB SSD and 4GB of RAM that is still cheaper than its counterpart Samsung Chromebook 2. One thing to note, only the lover-res model can last up to 13 hours while 1080p model manages to hit 11 hours.
Moreover, the new Acer Chromebook 13 is coming in an all new body. The casing of the device is matte finish plastic which looks rather sturdy. The Chromebook has a full sized keyboard and trackpad with enough space. The machine looks slick, measuring 0.71 -inch thick and weighs in 3.31 pounds. And thanks to the NVIDIA’s K1 mobile chip architecture, it is fanless.
For connectivity, the device has everything you expect for a machine like this, which include two USB 3.0, an SD card reader, HDMI output, and a headphones jack. And the features complete with webcam of 720p, stereo speakers and a microphone.
The new Chromebook 13 CB5 from Acer is now up for pre-order starting today and shipping is expected in September. Meanwhile, Dell and others are expected to launch new series. It seems that Chromebooks are gradually picking up in variety of specs and design and we can expect more powerful and long-lasting devices running on Google Chrome OS in the near future.
