Apple iPhone 6 Plus, 6 with 5.5″ & 4.7″ Retina Display unveiled; Specs, Price and Release Date
Apple has finally unveiled the most anticipated iPhones ever, the iPhone 6 officially called Apple iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6. Both as rumored with 5.5 ” and 4.7″ display respectively. The new devices are coming with a unique design resembling a bit of its first iPhone and has tweaked the device to utilize full advantage of the large display.
The new iPhone has an alluring design, with curvy edge and protective glass long-stretched to the edge for more seamless experience when swiping. The iPhone chassis is made of anodized aluminum with a stainless steel Apple logo. The iPhone 6 measure just 6.9mm thickness.
In terms of specs, the iPhone 6 is coming with 4.7″ Retina HD display of 750 x 1,334 pixels resolution and pixel density has been pushed to 348ppi. Despite the new resolution, all apps will work.
The device is powered by Apple’s latest Apple A8 chipset which is promised to offer 25% more CPU power and 50% extra GPU. It is built on more power efficient 20nm process, making it 13% smaller than its A7.
In the camera department,. the iPhone 6 offers 8 MO iSight camera which the company claims to have improved and offers an f/2.2 aperture. The camera can shoot videos at 1080p @ 60fps speed and a slo-mo video can shoot at 120fps and 240fps at a lower resolution.
The new features on the iPhone 6 is VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) and Wi-Fi calling and LTE has been pushed further to 150Mbps. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC with Apple’s new Apple Pay service for wireless payments.
Apple iPhone 6 packs a battery that offers 14 hours of talk time.
Apple’s new iPhone 6 will be available in three variants of storage, 16GB, 64GB and 128 GB unfortunately there is no 32GB version if you planned to get one.
The 16GB model is priced at $199, certainly with two-year contract. Whereas, the 64GBand 128 GB version will set you back $299 and $399 respectively.
iPhone 6 will be available for pre-order starting September 12 with a shipping date of September 19.
Apple iPhone 6 Plus
On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus packs a huge screen, joining the phablet family and this is Apple’s first phablet. The device is by design looks exactly like iPhone 6 with same curvy edge and corners. The device is baked in an anodized aluminum with stainless steel frame. There is also a stainless steel Apple logo on the back. Further more, despite its “Plus” size, the iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s slimmest iPhone for that size, at 7.1 mm thickness.
The smartphone utilizes the screen maximum by optimizing the user interface. The user interface offers split-screen mode in several apps. The device boastst the same Retina HD display but with a little more resolution, 1920 x 1080 pixels and the display is IPS LCD. The display boasts 400 pixels per inch density.
The display also features an ultra-thin backlight and photo-aligned IPS liquid crystal on top of it, covered by a enhanced polarizer that should offer even better outdoor visibility.
Apple iPhone 6 Plus is powered by new 64-bit A8 chip built around 20nm manufacturing process and offers 25% more CPU power and 50% GPU boost.
In the camera department, the iPhone 6 Plus has the same 8MP iSight camera but with an extra True Tone dual LED flash. The pixel size of the camera hasn’t been changed since iPhone 5S, and offers the same 1.5μ and at f/2.2 aperture. The camera is coming with OIS (optical image stabilization ) for better imaging experience and quality.
Apple iPhone 6 Plus camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30 and 60fps speed and a slo-mo at 240fps. And the new sensor supports phase-detection and auto-focus.
For connectivity, the Plus also supports LTE but 150Mbps cat4 LTE rather than the latest Cat 6 with 300Mbps speed. Howoever, just like the iPhone 6, the Plus also features the VoLTE and Wi-Fi 802.11ac, that is promised to offer 3x faster Wi-Fi compared to its previous model iPhone 5S. the device also features WiFi calling which will work T-Mobile in the US and EE in the UK.
Other connectivity features exactly same as the iPhone 6, inducing NFC with Apple’s payment service, called Apple Pay.
Apple’s new iPhone 6 Plus will be available in three versions, 16, 64 and 128 GB while it lacks a microSD card slot that is the norm when it comes to iPhone.
On the software side, the both iPhones are running on latest iOS 8 with all the improvements and tweaking it has to offer including a new feature called “reachability”, that enables you to bring down all the UI to the bottom with a double-touch of home button, and another double-touch will bring back the UI to its original form.
Finally pricing and availability, the 16GB is priced at $299 (On contract in the US) while 64 GB and 128 GB models are offered for $399 and $499 respectively. The release date for the iPhone 6 Plus is set to September 19, but you can pre-order the device starting September 12. US, Canada, France, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, and the UK will be the first to get hands on the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
