Fully Self-Driving Cars 5-6 years away, says Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk

Tesla Self-Drivng Car

We have been hearing about self driving cars for a while. Companies like Google have already tested their self-driving car. Good for a long trip,  chances are you don’t want to deal with traffic and other things for such a long commute  and wondering when the self-driving car will be available to consumers.

Well, According to Tesla’s CEO, it will take 5 or 6 years before the technology is available  for consumers like you and me. That may be because current laws and regulations are not up to date and may take time to catch up to the technology. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO was talking to The Wall Street Journal  and shared his thoughts on the self-driving car and when we could expect such technology  for common consumers.

Musk also indicated that hurdles they have in front of this technology. According to the CEO, one of the big thing holding back the self-driving car is the technology used to recognize objects. And he also said that the his and other companies are working to get the technology perfected, where computers are able to accurately identify objects.

So it seems like everything comes down to the software which helps take the right decision, not just cameras, sensors, and radars that self-driving cars currently employ to get things done. So we may need to wait some more years before self-driving cars hit our roads. However, one thing is sure, world is going towards a completely automation where everything is controlled by machines one way or the other. That can be interesting but it also raises so many ethical questions and worries, technology can be useful but can also harm people if it is not used the way it is supposed to be. What do you think?
