Google sends out Invites for September 15 Event in India; Android One expected
Google has something in its disposal for India. The company has sent out invites for an event scheduled on September 15. The invite itself doesn’t reveal much other than “More details closer to the date!”. But the company expected to reveal more details on highly anticipated Android One program.
Google announced Android One back in June at Google I/O . The confirmed manufacturers taking part in project are Karbonn, Micromax, and Spice while more companies are expected to have joined the plan.
The project is intended to keep its hold in the market by offering devices with affordable price while controlling customer experience in the entry-level device. The device under the program will be coming with stock Android on board.
Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President, Android, Chrome and Apps at Google also reportedly said that the company will not subside Android One hardware. Instead, Pichai hopes that by sharing resources between Google and the OEMs, the partners would be able to keep the total cost of manufacturing in check.
However, the company’s intriguing invite with word “Block the date” assumed to imply Google’s Project Ara. The Ara project was an initiative of Motorola, later acquired by Lenovo from Google. But Google didn’t want to leave the project and since then, the company has been working on it. The Project Ara is a new modular smartphone concept that lets you customize features of the device with swappable modules such as camera module and display module.
