HP’s 11.6″ and 13.3″ Stream Laptops join budget line; pricing from $199

There are cheap Android tablets and Chromebooks and students may favor them over some of the Windows devices with high price. But it seems that is not the case anymore , and Google may face tough competition in the laptop arena as well as tablet market. Microsoft has geared up its plan to launch cheap Windows devices including tablets and laptops. After recent announcement of cheap Toshiba and Acer laptops with Windows 8.1, here comes two new devices from HP.

The Laptops are dubbed HP Stream 11.6 and Stream 13.3 ad  both come with a competitive price tag, $230  and $200  respectively. It is true that this devices may not offer  some high-end functionality like high-resolution display and powerful processor but you get full fledged Windows 8.1 devices from HP that can run Microsoft Office or any other Windows applications that is not available on Chromebooks.

The company hasn’t revealed full details on its specifications, but we do know that the Stream line will come with Intel Celeron N2840 Bay Trail processors, 2GB of RAM, solid state storage, and fanless designs. That sounds pretty appealing for that price.

Both Stream laptops will have 32 GB of internal storage  and other features include 1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI ports, SD card slots. You also get a year of Office 360 subscription to Microsoft Office 365 with Microsoft’s Office apps as well as 1TB of online storage. HP Stream notebooks also include $25 gift card that can be used to purchase content from the Microsoft Store.

The battery under the hood is non-removable, and 11.6-inch model battery can last up 8.25 hours while the 13.3-inch model can run up to 7.75 hours on single charge.

If you want an alternative to Intel processor, HP has one on its Stream lineup with an AMD A4 Micro processor. This model features 14-inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

The company also offer 4G model of Stream 13 with 200MB of free data from T-Mobile each month. If you are looking for a cheap Windows 8.1 laptop with usual functionality this may be one for you, but note that the devices casing is completely plastic and its display has limited viewing angles. All models will come in variety of bright colors.
