Google launches new Hangouts App for Windows and Chrome OS

Google Hangouts App for Windows and Chrome OS

Google has launched a new Hangouts app for Windows and Chrome OS. The app replaces the older Chrome browser extension while  keeping its voice or video calls to contacts regardless of the devices they are using.

The new app is also designed to get out of the way when it’s not in use.

Hangouts for Chrome features a UI that kinda resembles Facebook Home’s chat heads. New conversation on Hangouts will bring up an icon for your contact  it’ll stay visible until you finish the chat. And hovering over the an icon will let you view the latest updates in that window.

Chat windows are smart enough to recognize if you are using it or not   and unless the chat window is active, the app will automatically minimize it. You can also drag the icon for hangouts anywhere on the screen and tap the icon to close it.

Hangouts can run in the background and works like native app. On Windows PC the app can be launched from the Start Menu or you can pin it to your taskbar, or switch between Hangouts and other apps using Alt+Tab keys on your keyboard.
