Fairphone 2 Modular Phone started shipping; pricing €525
Modular phone is not something new and Google has been talking about such one called Project Ara but Faiphone has already started shipping its first batch of its own modular phone which was unveiled back in June.
Fairphone design is unlike Project Ara looks similar to usual smartphone with front and back panels while one in the middle features points to which the components are installed individually.
In terms of specs, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 801 chipset and sports a 5″ 1080p screen with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device has 2GB of RAM and an 8MP camera primary shooter, and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The device also offers support for 4G LTE and dual-SIM, and also has a microSD slot.
“It’s been almost two years in the making, and some of the earliest buyers have been patiently waiting since July to receive their new phones,” said Fairphone community manager Douwe in a blog post. “As community manager, I want to personally welcome the new batch of Fairphone owners to our community.”
In the beginning, 1000 units are expected to be delivered to customers who have already preordered the device, followed by rest of the pre-order in January 2016.
Faiphone 2 is priced at €525 and is currently only available for customers in Europe.
