2016 Deal: 7 Best Laptops with Skylake CPU Under $900 for Gaming and Professional Use

Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED with Skylake

With overwhelming options available in the market, it can be really tough to find right model for your purpose, especially if you don’t have real idea about what you want under the hood and why. Despite huge surge in tablet market with variety of hybrid models and compact form factor, real heavy-duty laptops are also available in wide variety of options in both under the hood and design features. And there can be time that you want such a device powerful enough to get your job done, in that case, relatively compact, heavily compromised in specs, mobility-focused ”laptab” may not be the right options.

Here you are going to meet six laptops powerful enough for both gaming and professional use as well as for your other entertainment needs. Of course, budget can be an issue, greater the budget powerful and modern the laptop will be, but I have definitely taken that into account and these 6 models with robust specs are some of the best options available for under $900.

Dell Inspiron 17.3″ Laptop

Dell Inspiron 17.3″ with neat design and aluminum finish is business model. The laptop comes with discrete graphics card that should give it an extra boost in its power for better multimedia and gaming experience. The wide screen is optimal for both gaming and professional work. Under the hood the laptop is powered by Intel’s latest 6th-gen Core i7 Skylake Dual-core processor coupled with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics unit  with Dedicated 4GB DDR3 Video Memory.

The notebook also packs 8 GB of RAM, 1TB Hard Drive and Multiformat DVD/CD-RW drive. And for connectivity, the device comes with 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0 as well as 02.11 AC Gigabit Wifi, 1G LAN Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.0. There is also SD card reader as well as Waves MaxxAudio.

The laptop rocks 17.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit Anti Glare Display and a backlit spill-resistant keyboard making it even possible to work in a dark room. The model gets power from a 40 WHr 4-Cell Battery.

The device is definitely not focused on mobility but performance. The device measures 16.41 x 11.15 x 1.06 inches and weighs in at 6.2 pounds. The notebook comes loaded with Windows 10 Professional 64-bit with Windows 10 Pro License

The laptop is available right now from a price of $835.38 with its original price being $1,399 and you save $563.62. There are only 6 left in the stock, and if you think this is the right one for you, head over to Dell Inspiron 17.3″ Laptop and grab it right now before the stock is over.

Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK

This model is latest in Inspiron line with relatively smaller screen but definitely not too small for a laptop. The laptop features 15.6-inch display with Full HD resolution  (1920 x 1080)  and design-wise the laptop looks aesthetic with Matte Black featuring Red Chassis.

The laptop is usual performance class model for both professional and gaming tasks and features almost all major tech specs like the 17.3″ model above while keeping it both compact and efficient enough.

The Inspiron 15″ 7559 packs really powerful 6th-gen Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Skylake processor making it kind of a device offering smooth multitasking experience. Running multiple programs simultaneously should not be a problem at all and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 4GB GDDR5 discrete video memory offers high frame-per-second rates in games and accelerates overall performance of the system while doing professional work like video editing and running other more demanding programs.

The laptop packs a 6-cell 74Whr battery promised to last up to 10+ hours.

Other specs include 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB Hybrid HDD + 8 GB SSD and optional optical drive. And for connectivity, there are three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and microphone ports, an SD media card slot  as well as 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The device also packs.

The notebook measures 15.1 x 15.1 x 10.4 inches and weighs in at 4.6 pounds. The model comes with Windows 10, hopefully professional version.

This model is one of the kind I really recommend you must consider getting. The Inspiron 15″ 7559 is available for $894.

HP Pavilion 15.6

You don”t want a dell model, well you may check out this HP Pavilion 15.6″ laptop with aluminum finish and Intel Skylake processor under the hood. The laptop has almost similar specs except for graphics card. This mode doesn’t offer discrete graphics unit, so don’t expect an outstanding experience while playing games and other more demanding programs.

The Pavilion 15.6 definitely packs 6th-gen Quad-Core Intel Skylake Core i7-6700HQ 2.60 GHz processor coupled with built-in  Intel HD Graphics 530 with shared graphics memory. With a quad-core processor and 8GB of RAM the laptop should not have any lag while running multiple programs simultaneously.

One advantage to this system from other two above is 15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS Touchscreen with 10 finger multi-touch support, yup you can use your fingers to do things quickly on the screen instead of playing with the touchpad or even keyboard sometimes. It would be much useful if it had a 360º hinge so that you could use the laptop like a tablet.

Other specs include 1TB Hard Drive,  Tray load DVD Drive, Front-facing HP TrueVision HD webcam and 4-cell lithium-ion 41WHr battery which should be good for 7.5 hours.

Ports include two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI and 1G LAN Ethernet. For wireless connectivity there are Gigabit 802.11AC WiFi and Bluetooth.

The notebook measures 15.14 x 10.28 x 0.99 in and weighs in at 5.2 pounds. The laptop comes loaded with Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS.

The HP Pavilion 15.6″ can be purchased for just $636 with its original price being $1,399.

Lenovo Flex 3 80R3000UUS

The Lenovo Flex is as its name suggests flexible with 360º hinge making it possible to use the laptop in 4 different modes while offering decent specs under the hood. The four different modes include Laptop, Stand, Tent and Tablet.

The laptop is definitely not as powerful as the HP and the Dell models but definitely packs decent specs for usual tasks and multimedia needs, may not offer an outstanding performance though (compared to the earlier model). This model is specially designed for mobility and usability on the go hence its own advantage and disadvantage.

The Lenovo Flex 3 is powered by 6-gen Intel Core i7-6500U Dual-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with integrated Intel HD Graphic 520 GPU. The laptop also packs  8 GB of RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive and Lithium Polymer battery that is good for up to  5 hours.

The model sports 14-inch Full HD 1920×1080 pixels touch screen, making it more unique and more user-friendly on the go as it features 360 degree hinge. And with Windows 10 on board, should give you the same tablet-like experience without any accessibility issues.

There are 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, one HDMI port and an SD card reader slot. The laptop also features WiFi 802.11 A/C for connectivity. The laptop also offers Lenovo’s SHAREit that lets you share things quickly without WiFi connection.

The Lenovo Flex 3 measures 13.39 x 0.85 x 9.25 inches and weighs in at just 4 pounds.

This model is for anyone who want a powerful yet flexible laptop. You can buy the Lenovo Flex 3 for a price of $749.99, saving you $100 from its original price $849.99.

HP Pavilion X360

Yup! this model is also a convertible laptop with 360º hinge and carries even lower price tag compared to Lenovo Flex, that is not without a compromise to the power it packs though.

The laptop is coming with aluminum finish and follows usual HP design pattern. In terms of specs, the laptop is powered by 6th-gen Intel Skylake Core i5 Dual-core processor clocked at up to 2.8 GHz coupled with integrated HD Graphics. The convertible notebook also packs 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD and B&O Audio.

On the connectivity side, you have two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, one card reader, one HDMI, SD card reader as well as 802.11 ac Wi-Fi.

The Pavilion X360 sports relatively smaller 13.3-inch 10-point touch IPS display with 1366 x 768 HD resolution (not Full HD unfortunately ) and HP Truevision HD Webcam. However, the laptop packs 3-cell 48 WHr Lithium-ion battery that can last up to 8 hours so with fully convertible mode you can use the laptop like a tablet and yet stay longer without any interruption.

The laptop measures 13 x 9 x 0.8 inches and weighs in at 5.2 pounds. And the laptop comes loaded with Windows 10 Home Premium.

The HP Pavilion X360 is now available for purchase at $549.94 with its original price being $949, saving you $300. However, if you want the same 360 convertible laptop from HP with almost similar specs except for even better 15.6″ Full HD 1920×1080 display, you may check out the HP Envy X360 here, but that is sold for almost $150 more at $699 with its original price being $949.

ASUS 15 K501UX-AH71

This model is another laptop with powerful specs and beautiful brushed aluminum design and yet incredibly thin and lightweight. The model goes under the category of gaming machines with discrete graphics card and full HD display.

Though not Quad-core processor, the laptop is much better one than the Flex 3 and the Pavilion X360 as long as lack of 360 degree hinge and touchscreen are not a big deal for you, and will give enough horsepower to run casual games and more demanding programs and yet not lag as it also features discrete graphics card.

The ASUS K501UX is powered by 6th-gen ( Skylake ) Intel Core i7-6500U Dual-core 2.5GHz processor coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card with 2GB dedicated video memory. The laptop also packs 8GB of RAM and for storage, the model uses 256 GB Solid State Drive instead of mechanical hard drive, which should be much faster in transferring data.

For connectivity, there are two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, one HDMI as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11.

The Asus 15 K501UX-AH71 sports 15-inch Matte Full HD 1920 x 1080 display and  chiclet keyboard with backlights, making it possible to work and play even in the dark.

The model is also built with ASUS IceCool Technology that keeps the palm rest surface temperatures at a below body temperature level as well as Smart Dual Fan Cooling System dedicated to cooling the CUP and GPU.

The Asus K501UX-AH71 15 is available for $779 with its original rice being $799. This model is yet another one I would highly recommend for power users who want a compact but yet powerful device.

You choice is purely based on how you use the device, for power and efficiency, I would recommend the first 3 plus the final Asus model, and for flexibility and mobility + decent specs, the convertible models are better ones to choose from. So what do you think about these laptops? If you already own any of these, leave your comment in the box below.
