Acer Aspire Switch 12 S 2-in-1 Tablet with 4K Display announced; Specs and Price

Acer has a bunch of devices for CES 2016 and Aspire Switch 12 S is one of them. The device is a 12.5-inch 2-in-1 tablet and is the latest in its Switch series. The tablet comes with keyboard dock witch transforms the device into a full fledged laptop once attached.

As a Windows 10 device, the tablet definitely takes advantage of Microsoft’s Continuum  and switches between tablet and laptop mode when the keyboard is attached or detached.

12.5-inch screen is an optimal size for a laptop experience while it also ensures the device doesn’t feel heavy and large when it is used in tablet mode. What makes the device different from the crowd is it lets you attached the tablet with its display facing the keyboard or its display facsing away from the keyboard.

In terms of specs, the convertible tablet is powered by an Intel Core M Skylake processor and sports 12.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display. The device is also one of its first models to offer an optional 3840 x 2160 pixel display. Both versions are IPS screens with wide viewing angles and there is even Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for screen protection.

Other specs details include optional 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage and a host of ports including  two USB 3.0 ports, a micro HDMI port, a microSD card slot, and the aforementioned Thunderbolt 3/USB 3.1 Type-C port.

The keyboard is equipped with magnets instead of  latch for attaching the tablet and the company says the Snap Hinge Gold is the third-generation of its “Snap Hinge,”  with a 6 Gbps data connection between the keyboard and the tablet and zinc-alloy connectors to charge the keyboard.

The device measures  about 0.3 inches thick and weighs 1.8 pounds without keyboard, while 0.7 inches thick and 3.1 pounds with keyboard attached.

Acer Aspire Switch 12 S is priced at $1000 and up and will be released in February 2016.
