Samsung to release Portable SSD T3; Now up to 2TB of Storage

Samsung introduced a brand new SSD declaring its dominance in the market. Samsung is starting its 2016 with this SSD dubbed the Portable SSD T3 and will be showcased at CES 2016. T3 is actually direct successor to the T1 model which was launched back in 2015.

The new model is coming with a host of improvements, though the device is a bit heavier and bigger. The new model is capable of read and write speeds of up to 450 MB/s and uses vertical NAND (V-NAND) memory.

However, the biggest upgrade is its capacity, Samsung Portable SSD T3 will be available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB as well as the whopping 2TB of storage. Other notable features include a USC Type-C connector with backward compatibility for USB 2.0, which will allow users to use the storage with devices featuring both latest and old USB  connectors, including smartphones and computers.

And to monitor storage, Samsung offers an Android app and offers password-based AES 256-bit hardware encryption.

Considering the price for 1TB T1 model, the Portable SSD T3 will not definitely come cheap, meanwhile SandDisk offers a a 2TB portable SSD for about $800. The storage will be available in next month in Korea, China, the US and a few EU markets, though an exact release date is not revealed.
