AMD unveils Radeon Pro SSG video card with 1TB of SSD memory; pricing $9,999
AMD has an exciting news for hardcore gamers and professional editors today who may need more power under the hood for smooth and fast graphic experience. The company has unveiled the Radeon Pro Solid State Graphics card (SSG). The new GPU utilizes two PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots for adding up to 1TB of SSD storage for the GPU to use as local cache.
As part of a demo at the company’s AMD Capsaicin event, AMD’s Chief Architect showed how the Radeon Pro SSG utilizes a pair of 512GB Samsung 950 Pro SSDs. They work in RAID-0 mode in order to provide the maximum amount of bandwidth. The GPU can scrub an 8K video at a rate of 4GB/s, compared to doing the work on the system SSD, which averaged 900MB/s.
AMD’s GPUs would usually reach a maximum memory of 32GB and this cap inspired the company to seek a solution for more graphic intensive tasks. And you are right this mammoth won’t come cheap and will initially be sold as a development kit for a price of $9,999.
