12 Best New Features of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update
Microsoft has been working on its latest Windows 10 update knows as Fall Creators Update for the past 6 months and it is now ready to roll out. Even though the name of the update is the same (Creators Update ), there are several new features as well as Microsoft’s latest design system known as Fluent Design.
With this Fall Creators Update, over all look and feel of the Windows 10 will change. Microsoft has added some subtle changes and animations to the update and more will be coming next year. The new design changes are seen across apps and services. The new design tweak will give you more moving and fluid experience. The design changes include transparency on the start menu, blur and light effects across the apps and extend it to notification center making it more easier to take a glance at the notifications. The design changes have even affected the notification toast making it even smoother.
Windows Mixed Reality
It is the Microsoft’s take on Virtual Reality and with this update the company is bringing deep integration of mixed reality to your Windows 10 PC. Definitely you will need a separate headset to have the real mixed reality experience while With Mixed Reality Viewer you can use your system cam to mix 3d objects into actual surroundings. Microsoft has partnered with several OEMs like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Samsung to make more affordable headsets available in the market. By just launching the Mixed Reality portal app, users can start using different features of Mixed Reality. There is a Cliff House home area to pin apps and games and even holograms. Users will need more powerful PCs to access some of the more demanding games, right now there aren’t too many games though. However, StreamVR support is expected to be available by the end of the year.
My People Integration
With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft has made Taskbar more personal with the integration of People app. Users can now pin contacts from people app to Taskbar. Users can even drag and drop files and images onto the pinned contacts and share them easily and emojis and messages will pop up during the conversations.
On-Demand OneDrive Files
With Fall Creators Update, Microsoft has improved how you access files on OneDrive. With this update users don’t need to choose which folder to sync in order to save space on hard drive as it just shows all the files and folders in the File Explorer and files that are not already present completely can be downloaded on-demand and you will get a notification about download progress. And files you open will now be automatically synced offline until the device runs out of space.
Microsoft Edge Improvements
With this update, Microsoft is bringing back the Pinned Sites on Taskbar feature. You can now pin your most favorite sites to Taskbar for easier access to the site. Microsoft has also improved the way you access and use PDFs and EPUB ebooks. Now you can annotate eBooks and even use ink with a stylus on them. Now you can also turn Microsft Edge into full-screen mode with a click of a button F11.
Other additional features include ability to migrate cookies and settings from Chrome to Edge , edit URLs in favorites, and an enhanced UI for managing favorites in general.
The Photo App Improvement
The Photo app has got several new features and design improvements. The app now has adapted the fluent design and brings AI-powered search option to find images containing particular objects. Another useful feature that this update bring is the ability to edit videos on the Photo app. Now you can trim a video clip and add filters and background sounds. There is a Video Remix features that ca automatically do this for you once you select a few clips and /or photos. The app now also lets you add texts and 3D overlays like bubbles and create slow-mo videos.
Cortana, your Windows virtual assistant is even better now. Cortana now syncs notifications including call notifications if you are using an Android phone. It now even lets you send texts to a contact on your phone if you are busy doing something on your PC, or reject the call. Cortana is now even smarter and can lock, sign out, restart or shut down your PC with voice commands.
Continue On PC
This feature lets you share something remotely from your phone and continue on your PC. With this new update, there is a dedicated phone section in settings that shows you how to connect an Android or iOS devices to start with this features. You can share articles, websites and searches to instantly open on your PC. It is just the beginning of a new service Microsoft wants to provide for the major mobile OSes.
Pen And Touch Enhancements
The creator update brings a great improvements to typing and inking features especially if you are a Surface user. The update has added a new touch keyboard with text prediction and emoji accessibility. The keyboard supports swiping as well as voice commands. When it comes to stylus, the input control lets you write as much as you want and the words just flows away to keep writing. Input control floats by default, and Ink gestures lets you make correction. Microsoft has also added a feature called “Find My Pen” to locate where you last used inking on your device, this is useful especially if you often forget or lose your pen.
Sound And Headphone Enhancements
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is coming with a very useful feature for those who often use headset. With this update, you can now control more features of the sound system on the right-click menu in the notification area. Now you can enable Windows Sonic, a spatial sound feature that supports surround sound and Dolby Atmos. The update also brings a new volume mixer which lets you control individual app volume for Universal Windows Apps apart from the system volume, it is a useful addition for those who want to play a background music while doing something else like playing game.
Share From File Explorer
This is a great addition to Windows 10 OS which makes easier to share files and images with your contacts and social media. It is more like smartphone share options.
Task Manager Improvements
The Fall Creators Update also brings a new section in your Task Manager Performance tab, which shows GPU and memory usage. This is useful while using more demanding apps or to know how much GPU is utilized by the system when certain apps are running.
