Windows 10 – How to turn on System Restore ?
Microsoft Windows 10 by default keeps System Restore feature turned off. This might be because there are couple of new system recovery features in the Settings panel where you can either take your system back to its factory settings by deleting all your files and apps or restore your PC keeping only your Files. The video below walks you through the process or you may continue reading.
However, in certain situation you may want to restore your PC back to a point or an event where you installed an app or deleted an app, because the event might be causing some error or some applications not to work well. So in this case, the System Recovery option in the settings panel may not help you because it removes all your other applications keeping only your files. This is where System Restore comes to play a role. However, you need to reserve some storage dedicated for System Restore and the PC will start keeping some Restore Point each time a new event like uninstalling an app or installing an app occurs.
The System Restore deletes old Restore Point and creates new one depending on the storage size you have reserved for the feature. So make sure you have enough storage on your C drive before you enable this feature and you won’t be able to use the space you reserved for anything else.
To enable System Restore in Windows 10 right click Start Menu – > System -> Advanced settings or Change settings, new windows pops up. Switch to System Protection and click Configure button at the bottom of the window. Then click the radio button for “Turn on system protection”. And in the Disk Space Usage on the same windows, set the storage size you want to reserve for the feature in GB. Greater the storage, more the system restore points it keeps.
